Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity

On October 16, 2016, Pope Francis canonized Elizabeth of the Trinity.

elizabeth-as-a-postulant-2Elizabeth Catez was born in 1880 in France. Her father died while she was still very young. She grew up in Dijon with her sister Margaret and her mother. As a child, Elizabeth was known for her terrible temper and stubborn will. She was a gifted pianist, taught religion, and visited the sick.

She entered the Carmel in Dijon in 1901 and made her final profession in 1903. During this time, she advanced in prayer and understanding of the workings of the Holy Trinity.

In 1905 she developed Addison’s Disease for which there was no treatment in the early 20th century. She died on November 9, 1906 at the age of 26. She was beatified in 1984.
